Does Fansly Require ID Verification? What to Expect

By Anna Krejcova — Editor, Fansly API

Article summary

Does Fansly require ID verification, and how does each check work?

  • Every Fansly creator verifies twice: an Ondato check with ID and selfie, then Fansly's own review of ID photos, a handwritten 'For Fansly' sign and a short video.
  • Fansly's help centre says applications are usually reviewed within 24 to 48 hours, while its Creator Hub aims for 7 to 10 business days. Plan around the longer figure.
  • As of October 2026, fans in 12 US states plus the UK, Australia, Brazil and Germany must pass an Ondato age check. For the US check, Fansly says Ondato doesn't store the selfie or ID.
  • Fansly doesn't document what 'card verification failed' means, and 2FA protects your login and sensitive actions. Neither one is identity verification.

Key definitions

Ondato
The third-party identity verification service Fansly uses for creator ID checks and regional fan age checks. For the US fan age check, Fansly says it only receives confirmation that the fan is age-verified.
Co-performer
Anyone besides the account holder who appears in a creator's content. Fansly requires every co-performer to be verified, with consent, before that content is published.
Fan age verification
A live selfie check, sometimes with a government ID, that fans in certain US states and countries must pass. Fansly ties it to local laws such as the UK's Online Safety Act.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
A login protection that asks for a code from an authenticator app or email. On Fansly it covers logins and sensitive actions, and it's separate from identity verification.

Yes, if you're a creator. You verify your ID with Ondato first, then send Fansly ID photos, a photo with a handwritten sign and a short video. As of October 2026, fans face a regional age check in 12 US states and four countries. "Card verification failed" is a payment error and 2FA is login security, so neither one is ID verification.

That's why searches for "Fansly verification" turn up such muddled answers. The word covers four separate checks, run for different reasons. This guide splits them apart using Fansly's own help centre and Creator Hub, as of October 2026. If you're new to the platform, start with what Fansly is and how it works.

Does Fansly require ID verification?

For creators, always. For fans, it depends on where they live and what they buy. Here's how the four kinds of "verification" compare:

Check Who it applies to What it involves If it goes wrong
Creator ID verification (KYC) Everyone applying to earn on Fansly Ondato ID and selfie check, then ID photos, a handwritten sign and a video Use Fansly's resubmission checklist
Fan age verification Fans in 12 US states, the UK, Australia, Brazil and Germany A live selfie, sometimes a government ID Follow the retry guidance shown
Card verification Anyone adding a card or paying A payment error message, not an identity check Check card details, then call your bank
Two-factor authentication (2FA) Anyone who turns it on A code from an app or email at login Fansly support can remove it after verifying you

On top of these, every new account needs email verification. Fansly also notes that "some regions require additional verification from a third party for identity confirmation."

How does Fansly creator verification work?

You verify in two stages: an identity and age check through Ondato, then Fansly's own review. You must be 18 or older and a legal adult in your country of residence. People often call this Fansly's KYC (know your customer) check, because it ties your account to a real legal identity.

Fansly verification steps, in order

Fansly's Creator Hub sets out the order:

  1. Create your account and verify your email. You can sign up with email, X/Twitter, Google or Twitch.
  2. Complete the Ondato check. You'll need "your ID (passport, identity card or driver's license)" plus a selfie taken in a well-lit spot. The help centre describes this as a government-issued photo ID.
  3. Finish your application at fansly.com/application. This is Fansly's own review. It asks for three things:
    • Photos of the front and back of your ID.
    • A photo of you holding your ID and a handwritten note. The note shows your name, today's date and "For Fansly".
    • A short video of your ID's front and back, with your face visible. In it, say your full name and "For Fansly".

Fansly's two sources word step 3 a little differently. The help centre says the sign shows your legal name, and the video shows you holding both the ID and the sign. The Creator Hub adds the spoken part. Write your legal name on the sign, hold both on camera and say the words: that covers both versions.

Photo and video tips from Fansly

The Creator Hub recommends a phone or digital camera rather than a computer camera, so your images are "sharp, clear, and well-lit". The Ondato selfie also needs good light. In agencies I've worked with, the smoothest applications came from preparing everything first: ID to hand, sign written, and a quiet room for the video.

Virtual creators and couples

Virtual creators "should register using their creator persona but provide legal identification for verification purposes," according to the Creator Hub. That fits Fansly's AI policy: non-photorealistic personas are allowed if the operator verifies as a real person.

Couples share one account. The Creator Hub puts it plainly: "One person will be the account holder and receive payouts. However, you'll both need to submit consent documents."

How long does Fansly verification take?

Fansly gives two different answers, and neither is a promise. Its help centre says applications are usually reviewed within 24 to 48 hours. Its Creator Hub says it aims to review them within 7 to 10 business days. The newer apply article just says "as quickly as possible".

Fansly source Review time When to follow up
Help centre: waiting to hear back (updated September 2025) Usually 24 to 48 hours After 72 hours: check junk and spam, then email support
Creator Hub (undated) Aims for 7 to 10 business days After 10 business days: email applications@fansly.com

Plan around the longer figure. If you've lined up a launch date or a promo, a two-week buffer stops you sending traffic to an account that can't take payments yet. Once you're approved, our guide on how to make money on Fansly covers what to set up first.

What to check before you resubmit

Fansly doesn't publish reasons for rejecting applications, so be wary of any list that claims to know them. What Fansly does publish is a short checklist. Before you resubmit, make sure your application:

  • "Includes all required fields"
  • "Contains complete and accurate information"
  • "Meets all listed requirements for approval"

Then add Fansly to your email's safe senders list, so the answer doesn't land in spam. Go back over the Creator Hub's photo guidance too: a phone or digital camera, good light, and the exact wording on your sign and in your video.

If you're denied, Fansly says you can reapply after reviewing the eligibility rules. Opening a new account instead means starting the full application again.

How do you update your verified details on Fansly?

Verification isn't one and done. If your legal name changes, email Fansly support with proof, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order. Add a close-up photo of your ID showing the new name.

Address changes need proof dated within the last 90 days. That can be a bank or card statement, utility bill, lease, or a tax or voter document. Fansly warns that outdated details "may lead to payout issues or limited access to certain tools". It also can't transfer account ownership to another person.

How do you verify co-performers on Fansly?

Everyone who appears in your content must be verified, with consent, before you publish. Fansly is blunt about it: "TAGGING ≠ CONSENT. IT JUST MEANS WE DIDN'T NEED THE PAPERWORK. YOU STILL DO."

You add people from the Co-Performers page with "Add Co-performer". There are three routes:

Method Who it's for Time window
On-site request ("Request an On-Site Fansly Creator") Another Fansly creator. This replaces tagging. Fansly shows a 7-day window
Secure link Someone without a Fansly account. They pass an Ondato check and e-sign consent, and no account is created. The Ondato request stays valid for 14 days
Manual submission Anyone, using paperwork you upload Review takes up to 7 days

Declined or revoked requests appear under the "Sent" filter. If someone revokes consent, it only affects future content.

What a manual submission needs

  • The "Consent to Recording and Publication" form
  • The co-performer's government ID
  • A selfie of the co-performer
  • A photo of them holding their ID and the signed form (strongly recommended)

Upload originals, not scans or screenshots. Alabama residents must submit all three pages of the form, including the notary acknowledgement.

North Carolina HB 805

North Carolina has its own rules. According to Fansly's HB 805 page, a state consent form has been required since December 1, 2025. The page says "A new form is required for each qualifying upload."

The same page also states: "Creators residing in North Carolina are prohibited from uploading content featuring co-performers." Solo content is still allowed. If you live in North Carolina, read the page in full and check your situation with a lawyer.

Fansly age verification for fans

Fans don't verify their ID by default, but some laws require an age check. Fansly uses Ondato for it, and the check depends on where you are.

Which US states require it?

As of October 2026, fans in 12 US states must verify their age. They are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. You complete it from the Privacy & Safety page. Ondato "does not store your selfie or ID", and "Fansly only receives confirmation that you're age-verified and nothing more."

Which countries require it?

Four countries, each tied to a local law, according to Fansly's global age verification page:

Country Law Fansly cites
United Kingdom Online Safety Act
Australia Online Safety Act 2021
Brazil ECA Digital
Germany JMStV

The prompt appears "usually upon login or when selecting adult content". You take a live selfie, and Ondato may also ask for a government ID. It runs "spoof detection, liveness check, and age verification" and "usually takes under a minute". When it works, you'll see "Age verified". If it fails, for example because of a blurry photo or a mismatch, you'll get guidance to retry.

What if you skip it? Fansly's help centre doesn't spell out what happens. It only says the prompt appears at login or when you open adult content.

Is there a KYC check for fans?

Sometimes. Fansly's gift code page warns: "If you go to purchase explicit content, you may still be subject to KYC requirements." It doesn't say when that applies. For creators, the upshot is simple: fans in the age-check regions above, and some buyers of explicit content, may meet an extra check before they can buy.

What does "card verification failed" mean on Fansly?

Fansly doesn't say. There's no help article explaining "card verification failed" or numbered versions like "card verification failed 2". Treat any specific cause you read online as a guess. What Fansly does publish is a basic payment troubleshooting list:

  1. Check that your balance covers the payment.
  2. Check the card number, expiry date and CVV.
  3. Contact your bank, which "may have blocked the transaction for security reasons".
  4. Contact Fansly support through chat on fansly.com or by email.

If the card still won't go through, try another method. On the Payments page you can choose "Add Card" or "Add Alternative Method", which varies by region, and set a default. Wallet top-ups are capped at "$500 per recharge".

Fansly also supports crypto wallet top-ups. Supported coins include BTC, ETH, LTC, USDT, USDC, SOL and XRP, and the app shows the limits.

Is 2FA part of Fansly verification?

No. Two-factor authentication protects your login. It doesn't prove who you are or how old you are. You turn it on under Settings > Account > "Setup 2 Factor Authentication", with an authenticator app or emailed codes. You'll then enter a code at login and for sensitive actions.

There's one overlap. If you lose your authenticator, Fansly support verifies your identity before removing 2FA. For the rest of the picture, read how Fansly handles 2FA and account security.

Verification when you run more than one creator

Agencies don't get a shortcut. Agencies and producers apply using the primary account owner's legal details. Every performer still needs verified consent before anything goes live, and manual consent review can take up to 7 days.

Across a roster, the hard part is spotting consent problems in time. Our Fansly API, an independent tool, sends a fansly.accounts.alert webhook when Fansly raises an alert on a connected account. The webhook docs say metadata.reason names the alert. Every alert observed so far belongs to the co-performer consent workflow:

  • consent_request_received: someone asked the creator to confirm they appear in the requester's content. requester_account_id shows who asked, and request_id identifies the request.
  • consent_sign_expired: a consent form the creator relies on has lapsed, which blocks the content it covers. co_performer_id and nickname identify the other performer.

Route both to whoever owns compliance, so a lapsed form gets renewed quickly. Our webhooks guide covers setup and signature checks. The API only alerts you: it can't submit, approve or sign consent forms, and it can't run age checks. A person makes every consent decision.

One more point people mix up. Connecting a creator account through the API uses Start Authentication, Poll Authentication Status and Submit 2FA. The docs note that Fansly has no selfie or liveness step during that login. That's about connecting an account, and it doesn't skip any part of Fansly's creator verification.

For team access, Fansly's Management Sessions let people work on an account without the creator sharing their login. Our guide to chatter access management covers that side, and the full endpoint list is in the API documentation.

FAQ

What ID do I need to become a Fansly creator?

A government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, identity card or driver's license. You use it twice: once in the Ondato check with a selfie, then again in Fansly's own review. As of October 2026, you also need to be 18 or older and a legal adult where you live.

How long does Fansly take to approve a creator application?

It depends which Fansly page you read. The help centre says 24 to 48 hours and suggests checking spam after 72 hours. The Creator Hub aims for 7 to 10 business days and says to email applications@fansly.com after that. Leave yourself about two weeks before any launch.

Do fans have to verify their age on Fansly?

Only in certain places. As of October 2026, that means 12 US states plus the UK, Australia, Brazil and Germany. Fans take a live selfie through Ondato, sometimes with an ID. For the US check, Fansly says Ondato doesn't store either, and Fansly only learns that the fan is age-verified.

How do I fix 'card verification failed' on Fansly?

Fansly hasn't published what this message or its numbered versions mean. Its general payment advice is to check your funds and card details, then call your bank in case it blocked the payment. If that fails, add an alternative method or top up your wallet with crypto, and contact Fansly support.

Can I reapply if Fansly denies my creator application?

Yes. Fansly says you can reapply after reviewing its eligibility requirements. It doesn't publish rejection reasons, so check every required field and requirement yourself first. Opening a new account instead means going through the whole application again.
